Leads

Tags

Label people with short free-form tags — by hand, in bulk, on import, or from Zapier and Make.

Tags are short labels you stick on a person: vip, wedding, newsletter, trade-show-2026. They’re free-form — there’s no list to set up first. Type a tag and it exists.

Tags are a Pro feature. See Basic and Pro plans.

Tags belong to the person

A tag sits on the person, not on a single lead. If someone has three leads over time, all three show the same tags, and tagging them from any lead tags the person.

Tags are per site, like people.

Adding and removing tags

Open a person page or a lead record and find Tags in the person’s details.

  1. Click Add a tag… and start typing.
  2. Press Enter or type a comma to add it.
  3. Keep typing to add more.

To remove a tag, click the × on it. With the box empty, Backspace removes the last tag.

Changes save immediately.

Suggestions

As soon as you click into the box, PageFork lists tags already used on the site, and narrows the list as you type. Use the arrow keys and Enter, or click, to pick one.

  • Tags the person already has are shown with a tick. Picking one removes it.
  • If what you typed doesn’t exist yet, the last row offers Add ”…”.

Suggestions are drawn from the people most recently active on the site, so a tag used only on old, quiet records may not be suggested. You can still type it in full.

Picking from suggestions is the easy way to keep one spelling per tag.

How tags are tidied

RuleDetail
Lower caseVIP is saved as vip
TrimmedSpaces at the start and end are removed
LengthUp to 40 characters per tag
CountUp to 50 tags per person
No repeatsAdding a tag the person already has does nothing

At 50 tags the box reads Max 50 tags until you remove one.

Tagging many people at once

In the Leads List view:

  1. Tick the leads you want.
  2. In the bar that appears, type a tag in Add tag.
  3. Click Add.

The tag is added to the person behind each selected lead. Up to 200 leads can be changed in one go. Bulk tagging only adds; to remove a tag, open the person.

Tags on import

The CSV import can tag people two ways:

  • A Tags column. Map a column to Tags. A cell can hold several, separated by commas or semicolons: vip; wedding.
  • Tags for the whole batch. On the mapping step, Add tags to everyone imported applies the same tags to every row — handy for marking where a list came from.

Import only ever adds tags. People who were already on the site keep the tags they had.

Tags from Zapier and Make

The Create Lead action in the Zapier and Make apps has a Tags field. Tags sent there are added to the person the lead is created for — again adding to, never replacing, what they already have.

Where tags show up

  • On the person page and on every lead record for that person.
  • On each person’s card in the People view on a phone (the first three, then a count of the rest).
  • In the leads CSV export, as a Tags column with tags separated by semicolons.

When two people are merged, the person you keep ends up with the tags of both.

Good to know

A tag went missing after bulk tagging or import. A person can hold 50 tags. Tags beyond that aren’t saved. Remove a tag they no longer need and add it again.

Two near-identical tags exist. wedding and weddings are different tags. Tags can’t be renamed across the site; fix them on the people who carry the wrong one.

Tags or a field? Use a tag for a simple yes/no label. If you want to record a value — a date, an amount, one choice from a list — use a custom field.
