Google Sheets
Add a row to a Google spreadsheet for every form submission, with no copy-pasting and no Zapier in between.
The Google Sheets destination keeps a spreadsheet of your form submissions up to date by itself. Each new submission becomes a new row, a second or two after it arrives.
It’s the quickest way to give your whole team, including people who never log in to PageFork, a live list of who got in touch.
Google Sheets is a destination, which is part of the Pro plan. See Basic and Pro plans.
What you need
- A Google account.
- To be an owner or admin of your PageFork team.
You do not need to create the spreadsheet first. PageFork creates it.
Setting it up
- Open your site in the editor, open Settings and go to the Forms tab.
- Under Destinations, click Add and choose Google Sheets.
- Give it a Name and pick the Form scope: one form, or All forms.
- Under Google account, choose an account you’ve already connected, or click Connect Google account. A Google window opens and asks you to allow PageFork. Approve it and come back to the editor.
- Click Create Google Sheets destination.
PageFork then creates a new spreadsheet in that Google account and starts filling it. Open spreadsheet on the destination takes you straight to it.
What PageFork can see in your Google account
Only the spreadsheets it creates itself. PageFork asks Google for the narrowest permission there is: access to files made by PageFork, plus your email address so the account has a label. It cannot read, list or change any of your other files.
What the spreadsheet looks like
- The file is named “Your site name — Form leads”.
- It has one tab, called Leads.
- The first two columns are Submitted at and Form.
- After those comes one column per field in your form, named exactly as
the field is named:
name,email,messageand so on.
Every submission adds one row at the bottom.
When your form changes
If a submission contains a field the spreadsheet has no column for, PageFork adds a new column at the right-hand end and fills it in. Existing columns are never moved, renamed or removed, so rows you already have stay exactly as they were.
What you can and can’t change in the sheet
The sheet is yours. You can sort, filter, colour, add notes and add formulas in other tabs.
Two things to leave alone:
- Don’t rename the headers in row 1. PageFork finds the right
column by its header text. Rename
emailtoE-mailand PageFork will no longer recognise it, and will add a freshemailcolumn at the end. - Don’t rename the Leads tab, and don’t delete the file.
You can move the file to another folder or share it with other people as usual.
What is and isn’t sent
- One row per form submission. If the same person submits twice, that’s two rows.
- The values are what the visitor originally submitted. A value you correct later in PageFork is not rewritten in the sheet.
- Stage changes are not written. Google Sheets only has the New submission trigger. For “tell me when a deal is won”, use an email destination.
- Leads you add by hand or import don’t add rows. See what fires a destination.
Testing it
Click Send test on the destination. A sample row appears in the sheet, using your form’s real field names with placeholder values. Delete the row afterwards if you like.
Connected Google accounts
Google accounts are connected once for your whole team, not per site. You’ll find them on the Team page under Connected accounts, where you can connect another account or Disconnect one.
- A team can have up to 5 connected accounts.
- Any number of Sheets destinations, across all your sites, can use the same account.
Disconnecting and reconnecting
Disconnecting an account switches off every Sheets destination that uses it, since none of them can deliver any more. The destinations and spreadsheets are not deleted.
When you connect the same Google account again, those destinations switch back on by themselves. Ones you had paused yourself stay paused.
The same thing happens if you remove PageFork’s access from Google’s side, under your Google account’s security settings. The next delivery fails, PageFork marks the account as disconnected, and the fix is to connect it again.
Limits
- 3 enabled Google Sheets destinations per site.
- 5 connected Google accounts per team.
Troubleshooting
The destination was disabled and says the spreadsheet is missing. The file was deleted, or PageFork’s access to it was removed. PageFork can’t recreate a deleted file in place. Delete the destination and add a new one, which creates a fresh spreadsheet.
The destination was disabled and mentions the Google account. The account was disconnected, or access was revoked at Google. Connect the same account again on the Team page and it switches back on.
A column is empty for new rows. Its header in row 1 was probably changed. Look at the far right of the sheet for a new column with the original name, and move the data back or restore the old header.
Rows stopped appearing. Open the destination and read Recent deliveries. See the delivery log.
