Editing

Reference websites

Paste a live website URL so PageFork can map pages, read content, and redesign or modernize from it.

Paste a public website URL into chat and PageFork can inspect it — discover the site map, read key pages, and take screenshots — before generating or editing. Use this to modernize an existing site, match a brand’s look, or rebuild a multi-page structure from a live reference.

You do not need to upload screenshots of the whole site. For a public URL, PageFork fetches the real pages.

When to paste a site URL

Good fits:

  • Modernize / redesign — “Rebuild https://example.com with a cleaner layout and keep the services and contact pages.”
  • Clone the structure — recreate important routes (About, Pricing, Contact) instead of collapsing everything into one homepage.
  • Visual reference — “Use the typography and spacing feel of https://example.com, but keep our brand colours.”
  • Content harvest — pull real section order, services, and copy cues from a site you own or are allowed to reference.

Less useful:

  • Login-walled or intranet sites (PageFork can only reach public pages).
  • Huge sites where you only care about one section — say which pages matter.
  • Trademark cloning of a competitor — ask for inspiration, not a copy.

How it works

When your prompt includes a live site URL, PageFork typically:

  1. Maps the site (sitemap and same-origin links) to find routes.
  2. Reads the most relevant pages (homepage and major nav first).
  3. Screenshots those pages so it can see layout and visual design.
  4. Builds or edits your PageFork site from that understanding.

You just write a normal prompt — no special mode to turn on.

Example prompts

Modernize https://oldbrand.com. Keep the services, about, and contact
pages. Make it feel more editorial and mobile-friendly.
Use https://reference.example as a visual reference for spacing and
type, but keep our current copy and brand colours.
Rebuild our site from https://mysite.com — recreate the main nav
destinations as separate pages, not one long homepage.

On the homepage generator, the same pattern works for a first version: describe the goal and paste the URL in the same message.

Tips for better results

  • Say what to keep vs invent — “keep the service list and phone number; rewrite the hero and testimonials.”
  • Name the pages that matter if the reference site is large.
  • Pair with files when needed — logo, brand PDF, or product photos still go through File uploads.
  • Prefer Advanced or Premium for full redesigns of multi-page sites. See Model tiers.

File URLs vs website URLs

Paste…PageFork treats it as…
A website (https://yoursite.com)Live site inspection (map + pages + screenshots)
A file (image, PDF, CSV hosted online)Same as an upload — read or place as an asset

See File uploads for attached and hosted files.

Limits

  • Only public http/https pages.
  • Mapping and reading are capped so large sites are sampled, not crawled endlessly — call out the pages you care about.
  • Private, auth-gated, or blocked sites will fail inspection; attach screenshots or export content instead.
